Black Muslim Forum runs a mentoring programme funded by Islamic Relief- Black Star Mentoring- named in honour of Marcus Garvey’s Black Star shipping line.
Black Star mentoring aims to positively combat the barriers that Black Muslim girls face when trying to break glass ceilings during the process of accessing employment, work experience, training, placements, and personal/ professional work development.
Black Star Mentoring key objectives:
-to develop self-esteem and confidence in 24 young Black Muslim girls
-to promote fairness and equity among young people when accessing opportunities
– to build emotional and professional resilience as well as resilience to poverty.
Mentoring will include assistance with timetable creation, mock interviews, confidence building, CV writing, spiritual support, academic support, job/placement applications, articulation and communication. There are 24 spaces and the mentoring programme will last for a period of 9 months.
